Truck Accessories Can Add Value, Looks, and Convenience

Are you wanting to add value and give your truck or SUV a personal and unique look? Adding Truck Accessories can do both. Dress up your ride with the almost unlimited supply of Truck Accessories available on the market. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of great aftermarket accessories available to meet your specific wants and needs.

First, decide where you want to start. Are you looking for something to tweak and dress up the exterior of your truck? Something special that will give your ride a unique, stylish and personal custom look and set your vehicle apart from others on the road?

A good place to start might be by adding a custom grill or grill guard. Adding an aftermarket grill or grill guard will give your truck a distinct look. There are many different styles you can choose from, depending on your personal choice or taste.

Try adding Truck Accessories such as Nerf bars, step rails, or running boards. They not only will change your ride's look, but they can also assist you and your passengers up into your truck, especially if you have a 4X4 or have added a lift kit. You can choose from chrome, aluminum, stainless steel, painted, tube style, and step style.

Adding a Tonneau Cover or Truck Bed Cover will add functionality and give your ride a stylish and custom look. Truck lids will also protect your cargo from the elements and can help to improve your gas mileage, sometimes as much as 11%! There are basically two different types of covers; hard covers and soft covers. You can make your selection from many different styles, such as; roll up, retractable, hinged, or folding.

Maybe you are wanting Truck Accessories that will improve and add convenience to your truck's interior. Adding nice set of floor mats will help your ride look clean and fresh and will also protect your floor and carpet. Need a convenient place to store some of your maps and gadgets? Check out the many different styles of consoles that can easily be added to your trucks interior. For looks plus protection, add a dash mat or a set of seat covers. For more conveniences, you might add a cup holder, CD holder, visor caddy, or even a GPS device and radar detector. Whatever type of truck accessory you are looking for, there are many different sources available to you..

Remember, by adding your personal choice of unique Truck Accessories, you not only can add value, but you can also add beauty and functionality to your personal ride.

Truck Care Advice For All Owners

Trucks may look hardy compared to other vehicles but they still need TLC. In fact, even more so. The cost of repairing a failing truck is much more than a city car and since trucks are usually a source of employment for many, they can't afford to be neglected.

Truck detailing

Detailing is the most basic care that can be offered to a truck and should never be overlooked. It should be done as often as possible since these vehicles ply highways and accumulate a lot of dirt which can clog vital systems and hamper performance. And since detailing doesn't require expensive cleaning equipment, it can be performed by anyone.

Clean corners like where the dash meets the windshield, trim and moldings using a hard, flat stick wrapped in a rag. Apply cleaner and scrape away dirt and stains.

Use leather polish and conditioner to keep seats clean, shiny and soft. Products meant for leather garments shouldn't be used on seats unless specified by the manufacturer.

Use cotton swabs to get at small areas where paint sticks can't. Concentrate on dash vents and similar grooves.

A soft bristle toothbrush dipped in cleaning agent should be able to scrape stubborn grime.
Fabric seats are best cleaned whole because if you spot clean, you'll end up with a clean patch that will highlight the dirt of the surrounding area.

Fixing scratches

Paint will scratch no matter how carefully you drive a truck. Minute scratches can be left as is but more noticeable ones should be treated before they get worse. Use fine grit sandpaper and sand the scratch to get out bits and pieces. You'll be a left with a larger bare spot but that's okay. Fill the gap with touchup paint which can be bought at any auto supply store.

Applying touchup paint is not a job for first-timers so practice on a piece of scrap metal before taking on the big guns.

Reshining dull paint

Paint dulls over time and there's little that can be done to avoid it. However, it's possible to revive it to a degree. You'll need a polishing compound and a damp sponge applicator to begin. Apply the compound to areas you want revived and wipe off after 30 minutes. Apply car wax and let it set for an hour before polishing in a circular motion.

Detergent and cleaning agents not meant for vehicles should not be used. They're abrasive and can damage paintwork. The same goes for buffers.

Mechanical maintenance

Professional servicing is naturally required but you, as the owner, have to make certain checks. Checking engine oil, brake fluid and air filters will let you know if your truck is in need of professional help. Remember, the longer mechanical maintenance is postponed, the more expensive it'll be when you get around to it.

Tire safety

Tire safety should be of primary importance to all vehicle owners and drivers. Tires are the only connecting components between a vehicle and the road and wear and tear that's not taken care of will cause them to become damaged further.

The main changes to look for are tire pressure which can be checked using a gauge and making sure the tread still has enough depth by using a coin. Place the coin inside a groove with the head facing up. If more than half the head can be seen, the tires are in need of replacement.

Best Pickup Trucks of 2013

The modern pickup is more than just a practical performance vehicle. They're now both powerful and luxurious. If you're shopping for a truck you can use for work and for exciting weekend adventures, you should consider these best trucks of 2013, as chosen by US News:

1. 2013 Ram 1500

The Ram 1500 is a great-performing truck, with several engine options. There's a powerful 5.7 liter Hemi V8, and an optional 8-speed automatic transmission. The rear suspension gives it a very comfortable ride, and decent handling. And there are many excellent options.

However, the Ram 150 has a below-average reliability score.

Fuel economy: 17/25 mpg city/highway (V6)

Standard features:

• 6-speed automatic transmission
• 6-speaker stereo with USB port

2. 2013 Ford F-150

There are an excellent range of engines, body styles, and equipment levels with the F-150. There are four engine options. It's practical, with a strong towing capacity and spacious, comfortable seats. It even has a business-ready onboard computer.

The F-150 got an above-average safety score.

Fuel economy: 15/21 mpg city/highway (5.0-liter V8)

Standard features:

• 6-speed automatic transmission
• Manual windows and mirrors
• Air conditioning
• Cruise control
• AM/FM radio
• MyFord touch infotainment

3. 2013 GMC Sierra 1500

The Sierra 1500's V8 options have plenty of power for towing. The two larger V8s have six-speed automatic transmissions. The Sierra has powertrain grade breaking even in normal transmission mode.

This truck has a large turning radius, which can make it hard to maneuver. And the safety score is below-average safety score.

Fuel economy: 15/21 mpg city/highway (5.3 liter V8)

Standard features:

• Manual windows and mirrors
• Air conditioning

4. 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The Silverado 1500 has good towing and hauling capabilities, four engine options, and a comfortable ride. The base V6 is mediocre, but the V8s are great. The Silverado has powertrain grade braking. Its strong chassis gives it one of the highest towing capacities in its class.

The design is a bit aged, though. And the Silverado 1500 got a below-average safety score.

Fuel economy: 15/21 mpg city/highway (5.3 liter V8)

Standard features:

• Manual windows and mirrors
• Air conditioning
• AM/FM radio

5. 2013 Toyota Tundra

The Tundra has strong engines, with good options. Customers have three engine choices, including a powerful 5.7 liter V8.

The interior is spacious, though the plastics seem a bit low-rent. But everything is easy to operate. It has a better than average safety score.

Fuel economy: 16/20 mpg city/highway (two-wheel drive, V6)

Standard features:

• Dual-zone climate control
• Cloth seats
• Power windows
• Auxiliary input jack

Tonneau Covers - One of the Must Have Truck Accessories!

If you are one of those people who drive a truck, it is very important that you have a tonneau cover. You may be wondering "So, what is so great about tonneau covers anyway?" These covers is a truck accessory that provides you with a very organized storage for the things that you transport from point A to point B; unless of course you are a Messy-Bessy, you will find a disorganized truck a real pleasure.

This particular truck accessory also provides adequate coverage from harsh weather conditions such as rain, snow and damaging effects of too much sunlight.

Pick-up trucks have a bed that is used in order to transport goods. When the items you wish to transport are placed on the bed, they will be at the mercy of the sun, rain or snow. Tonneau covers will provide covering for those items being transported with your truck. These covers are different for truck accessories such as camper shells, which are designed to turn the truck bed into a sort of camp compartment.

The name "tonneau" is a French word which simply means "back seat compartment of a car". Although, your truck bed is not exactly a seating compartment, but the term is still suitable. There are times when the word tonneau is spelt as "tonno"; but the former spelling is still pretty much used when talking about this particular accessory.

There are many truck accessories on the market, but when there is a need for you to transport items from heavy furniture to groceries, the tonneau cover will be very useful. The cover will protect your transported items from the weather, curious eyes and from damage. Do you know that these very simple-looking covers can actually help you protect your items? When these covers are placed carefully and strategically, they can protect your items from the damaging effects of moisture when it rains. With this equipment, truck owners can have that little peace of mind when they are transporting items that are sensitive to moisture and dust.

Tonneau covers also provide some level of security when transporting certain items; because if you cannot see it, you will not even think about stealing it! Because a tonneau cover hides your goods from sight, people with "sticky fingers" would most likely pass over your vehicle when they are considering which truck to steal from....hmm should they pick the truck with the beautiful antique furniture and fancy designer baggage or the one that is covered and only God-knows-what-is-underneath-it? Everyone knows the answer to that easy question!

These great truck accessories also come in different models with added security such as alarms, designs and locks that will make stealing very hard.

The various tonneau styles are:

* Hard tonneau
* Heavy Duty Soft Tonneau
* Toolbox Tonneau
* Retractable Tonneau

Another great thing about tonneau covers is that it helps save gas - yippee skipee! This is because a closed air truck bed will lower air resistance. Reduced drag simply means that you will be driving a lot faster without burning up all your gas - vroom-vroom!

Everyone loves to have a unique ride that gets the attention that it deserves, and there is no better way to make your ride unique than with truck accessories. Here is a partial listing of some of the truck accessories that are available on the market today: grille guards, truck bed covers, custom wheels, tool box, and a tonneau cover.

While pickup accessories can be expensive, there are many that are highly affordable. It all just depends on the quality range you are looking for. With that being said, just because something is high priced, does not mean that it is of high quality or a higher quality than a lesser priced object. You will want to know the features that you need or that you want and take that into consideration whenever you are looking for truck accessories for your ride.

One thing that you will want to make sure that you do when adding truck accessories to your pickup truck and that is to make sure that you have your vehicle insured properly. Most of the time when involved in a wreck, insurance does not cover any accessories on the vehicle unless you have acquired the proper insurance for such. Contact your insurance provider to make sure that your accessories are covered. If you are planning on investing in many truck accessories to completely "pimp" your ride, then you will definitely want to make sure that your investment is insured.

When shopping for trucks make sure that you are purchasing the right kind for your vehicle's make and model. Truck accessories for a Dodge pickup truck will not fit a Ford. Furthermore, accessories for a 1995 Dodge truck will not fit a 2010 Dodge pickup. Prices for the different model of accessories will also be different.

Start making your ride unique through investing in some truck accessories that is sure to garner attention and put a smile on your face.

Retractable Tonneau Covers or Roll Top Covers

There are a number of retractable tonneau covers available on the market. These covers are also known as roll top truck bed covers. Many pickup truck owners love this type of cover because they fit the needs of their everyday demands. The overall design of the retractable tonneau covers are quite unique to which you would probably agree to if you have seen one.

They have pretty much the same appearance by the way they are constructed. They have two rails that are installed just inside of the truck bed sides that the cover operates in. There is a canister that stretches across the truck bed just behind the cab. It is situated so that it is pretty much flat with the cover for a nice sleek look. The cover rolls up inside the canister to open and out of the canister to close.

Most of these covers are made out of slats of aluminum or vinyl or both which hinge together to be able to roll up. It always reminds me of a roll top desk. Most of the retractable tonneau covers stop pretty much where you want them to, rather than having to open or close it all the way. Water flows off the cover and into the side rails, which act sort of like a gutter and channels the water toward the rear and away. There are usually drain hoses that attach to the canister and down through plug holes in your truck box. This takes away any water that goes down into the canister.

There are retractable tonneau covers that are manual but there are also some models that are electric and open and close with a remote control. Some of these electric models are known as the Bedlocker by Pace Edwards, the PowertraxOne by Retrax and Roll N Lock E series by Roll N Lock. These are all great roll top covers and you would be pleased with any of them. Some of the leading models of the manual covers are the rollback by Bak, the jackrabbit, full metal jackrabbit and roll top by Pace Edwards, the Roll N Lock M series by Roll N Lock, the retraxone and retraxpro by Retrax, the american roll and the American work cover by Truck covers USA which is a retractable tonneau cover with a tool box.

These roll top covers have the advantage of fast and easy access to your truck bed as well as giving you the ability to use most of your cargo area without having to remove the cover. They lock to keep your cargo safe from thieves. You can drive with them open to pretty much any position you wish. This is not a function that many tonneau covers have.

If you are familiar with this type of cover you know that they look great. Many pickup truck owners already have these covers on their truck and are quite pleased with the look, the operation and the advantages that the retractable tonneau covers provide, also known as roll top covers.

Information On The Various Benefits of Tonneau Covers For Your Truck

Do you have a truck? Well then, installing a tonneau cover on your truck bed might be a great way to enhance it. Tonneaus are very useful in whatever given situation, installing them also provide different kinds of essential benefits. Here are some:

1. If you use your truck bed often to haul various things, then tonneaus help to organize storage for such and make sure that loose items can be kept close. If you are the type who has everything from the occasional load of groceries to hardware onto the back of your trusty truck, then having tonneaus is a great help to keep a lid on these items. Your cargo can be shielded from the uncontrollable wind while driving along the freeway in all kinds of weather. It is also the best way to make sure that your cargo is secure and nothing gets lost while you are parked or driving.

2. Your items on the truck bed will be covered from weather conditions like snow, extreme sun and rain, which may potentially be damaging. Make sure that you choose the type of cover with great design features ingeniously directed for maximum protection on various extreme weather conditions. Most tonneaus have strategically placed weather seals that make sure any form of liquid substances are channeled away from the cargo. There are also models with support bows that are arched or raised in order for moisture to runoff. There has been no truck bed cover invented yet which is watertight, but most has been doing a great job in keeping your gear stored tightly in nasty and unpredictable weather.

3. Tonneau covers also prevent potential theft of your payload. It keeps your cargo covered and out of sight from bad elements who are quick to eye out of place items. We are working on the concept that when a cargo is out of sight, then it would also be out of the mind from a would-be thief. Your cargo contents remain a mystery as long as it is protected and well covered by the tonneaus. You can be confident enough that your belongings will be left alone largely. Beyond the simple cover and protect principle, there are also models that offer higher security systems. There are hinged or lift-up models that can be locked using a tailgate. Meanwhile, retractable and hard top ones have very secure key locking systems that can be latched close at tailgate. Aside from being a good hauler, your truck bed can now become a very nice hiding spot for important items - making your tonneaus very handy indeed for security measures as it arises.

4. The gas mileage of your truck will significantly be reduced also with the help of tonneaus. Your truck may be taller and its engine may be bigger with deeper payloads. Such vehicles can pass up a lot of gas especially during heavy traffic. Oil companies take a big bite from your money every time you pump gas. Why? Having an open truck bed can make your gas mileage soar high up. Air flows over the front end aerodynamic of your vehicle and swirl into your truck bed catching on the tailgate. This could steal several miles off from your gas tank. If you cover your truck bed very tight with a tonneau cover - even the soft types, the tailgate drag stops. You save mileage a lot without having to remove your tailgate and risk open-gate driving. If you want to even the score and save a bit, then having a good truck bed cover is what it takes - you can prolong your next stop to the gas service station with a very good truck bed cover. If you are asking the savings you would likely gain - well, a 5% improvement in economizing of fuel is the acceptable number industry-wide, but it can be possible up to 10%. Depending on your type of vehicle, you could see smaller or even bigger effects. However, the idea is rather simple. Installing truck bed covers will save gas a lot and eventually even pay for it.

5. The general appearance of your truck will improve because such provides a sleek look. Some are made of smooth leather with grain patterns while some can be customized and matched with your preferred style and color. A smooth truck bed cover enhances the custom style of a truck from bland to outstanding. Each cover offer a custom fit to the truck dimensions according to specific year, model and make. The result is your truck would sport a special fit and appearance that is unique. Tonneaus can provide a level of extra smart appearance. Soft tonneau covers stretch tight can be stylish and not just save gas mileage. There are also various lid materials. Retractable ones are the kings when it comes to the low profile but smooth factor. Hard top models are the ultimate when you like to have customized looks - seamless fitting molded-over edges with optional paint matching.

Guide to Hitch Shop for a Fifth Wheel Trailer

The truck you use for towing will determine what hitch to buy for your fifth wheel trailer. It's more comfortable to tow a trailer when you have the right kind of hitch. Manufacturers have different styles for different hitches but some basic functions are available. They rate different hitches for specific gross vehicle weight rating. You have to take different considerations when choosing a hitch. These include the road and type of truck you are driving.

1. When you need to tow using a short bed truck, a sliding hitch would be the best option. The sliding hitch when pulling is placed in the forward position and mounted over the axle's rear. When backing the trailer, it gets slid back to a rearmost position. When the hitch is slid back, it prevents the trailer's nose from hitting the truck cab when turning sharply. This is due to the shortness of the truck bed.

2. Purchase a gooseneck adaptable hitch in case you are towing a gooseneck trailer. A gooseneck trailer is primarily used to haul stock. A companion hitch is attached to the gooseneck hitch ball. The hitch can be attached and detached when not in use. This is because a fifth wheel hitch has external bars that mount it and place it in the truck's bed. The bars will remain there whether the it is in use or not.

3. If you intend to only use the truck for towing the trailer, you can use standard fifth wheel hitches. The trailer should have long turning radius hence the need for a long bed truck. You can also mount the hitch without the bed if it will not be of use. Attach the hitch to the two bars that have been mounted permanently in the truck bed. You can remove it when not in use but not the bars.

4. If the road you are to tow your fifth wheel trailer is bumpy or rocky, use an air ride hitch. The air ride hitch smoothens out the ride by providing an air shock. This will reduce stress to the hitch and truck and also the pressure on your vehicle. It's a bit expensive, but makes towing so much easier. You mount it just like a standard hitch on a long bed truck.

Make sure you get the best price for your hitch too. To make sure you get variety in style and types, visit different stores. You can also decide to go for a weight distribution hitch that will evenly distribute the trailer's weight. To make towing a happy experience make sure your trailer is balanced and that the hitches are adjusted correctly.

Tonneau Covers: Past and Present

When you have a pickup truck, it is much more than a set of wheels to travel in. In fact, it is often viewed as both transportation and a tool with which to get a job done. However, as a "tool" your pickup truck bed frequently takes a bit of abuse. But, thanks to products like tonneau covers, you can protect your truck bed. But have you ever given thought to how the tonneau covers came to be? After all, it's not as if they have always been in use! Here is a brief history of tonneau covers.

Tonneau is actually a French word meaning barrel, cask or container. They were originally designed to serve as a protective cover for unoccupied passenger seats in convertibles, roadsters or pickup trucks. It was an optional element that allowed the vehicle's owner to use or remove at their convenience. They were first used in Europe, but were eventually manufactured in the US by Cadillac in 1910. Like today, the covers came in both a soft or hard version and opened using a hinging mechanism or by rolling up. Of course, as time has moved on, so have the tonneau covers and today they are used primarily for pickup trucks.

With time, it was found that covers offer more than just a protective covering for one's vehicle, although this is certainly a great reason to have a tonneau cover installed in your truck. Tests have discovered that a vehicle with a tonneau cover has minimal buffering, the turbulence caused when wind/air passes over the windshield, regardless of the speed at which one is traveling. In addition, some tonneau covers, in particular those that help insulate the cab of the truck, are capable of helping to retain heat and some are even designed so that they help reduce the amount of UV exposure the driver receives.

Tonneau covers come in a variety of styles and materials. The most commonly found are those made from cloth or vinyl that is stretch tautly then either snapped into place or held in place using a rolling system. A retractable cover is also made that is designed to be mounted to the truck and then retracts from the tailgate to the back of the cab. The retractable system is considered by many to be the most convenient, especially if you are not always concerned about covering the truck bed. For a heavy-duty tonneau, one will want a cover made from fiberglass or hard plastic. These heavier covers like the retractable ones, can be locked, but added bonuses, are that the hard tonneau covers can be designed to match the truck, can be designed to rise vertically or even to have multiple compartments.

Improve Your Ford F550 and Ram 5500 Suspensions with New SumoSprings

Carpinteria, Calif. (March 11, 2013) SuperSprings International introduces new "fit-it-and-forget-it" suspension enhancements for two of the most versatile vocational trucks on the market. Rear SumoSprings, the company’s "airless airbags," are now available for the Ford F550 (P/N SSR-104) and Ram 5500 (P/N SSR-303).

Composed of microcellular urethane, SumoSprings increase load-carrying capacity, provide a smooth load engagement, reduce side-to-side body roll and improve ride. Unlike an airbag, they are completely maintenance-free and do not expand outward when compressed.

Since there is no air bladder, SumoSprings will never burst or sag due to leaks. Owners will never have to add air or maintain compressor lines. SumoSprings have been tested in the harshest environments and will perform in temperatures ranging from minus 25 F to 200 F.

"SumoSprings are truly a ‘fit-it-and-forget-it’ solution for fleets of all sizes," said Mike Visser, president of SuperSprings International. "They install easily and can be left untouched for the life of the vehicle. We’ve tested SumoSprings across a variety of industry platforms and found that the trucks tend to wear out before their SumoSprings do."

Introduced in 2009, SumoSprings are available in front and rear versions for trucks, SUVs and RVs. The new applications are mounted to the rear suspensions of the 2005-2013 Ford F550 and 2007-2013 Ram 5500 using the existing factory holes drilled for the OE bump stops. No additional drilling or fabrication is required. Typical installation takes an hour or less using standard tools.

"Since the SumoSprings urethane compound doesn’t change, designing the new applications was just a matter of figuring out how to best arrange the brackets," said Visser. "The F550 and 5500 are utilized in many industries and there’s a SumoSprings benefit for nearly every use. If you have a dump or flatbed truck, they level the vehicle when loaded and prevent harsh bottoming out. On heavy emergency, road-rail and tow trucks, SumoSprings reduce sag and side-to-side body roll. For armored vehicles, we frequently pair SumoSprings with our SuperSprings leaf spring enhancers. We even provide them in single packs for bucket and crane trucks that might only need support in one corner."

Some airbag-replacement products utilize rubber, but microcellular urethane has multiple advantages. It progressively compresses under load, providing the best possible ride in all conditions. Each SumoSpring can be compressed by 80 percent of its original height with full memory rebound, offering better performance and long-term durability than competing systems. Plus, SumoSprings cost significantly less than their rubber counterparts.

SuperSprings International offers fleets a 30-day evaluation program. Fleets interested in trying SumoSprings can test a set for 30 days. If not satisfied during that time, they can return it at no charge.

Other Rear SumoSprings applications are available for the Ford F250, F350, F450, E350 and E450; Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, Sprinter 2500 and Sprinter 3500; GMC/Chevrolet Sierra/Silverado 2500HD, 3500HD and Savana/Express 2500, 3500 and 4500. All SumoSprings are made in the U.S.A.

For more information about SumoSprings or any of the other suspension-enhancing products available for work trucks from SuperSprings International, visit www.supersprings.com or call (866) 898-0720.

About SuperSprings International
SuperSprings International produces a full line of suspension-enhancing products for load-carrying vehicles. The company was founded in 1996 to manufacture the original SuperSpring self-adjusting leaf suspension stabilizer, and later expanded to include microcellular urethane components. The urethane is utilized in SumoSprings "airless airbags" and SuperSway-Stops. SuperSprings International is based in Carpinteria, Calif. It is a member of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) and the NTEA.

Know Your Hitches

Before you can undertake any type of towing, it's important to know what kind of hitch is appropriate for your vehicle. So many are available in the market, that you might get confused. There are also different classes depending on the weight they can tow. The appropriate hitch to buy is usually determined by the amount of load you want to tow.
Class 1 Hitch.
These are used to tow very light load, Most of them tow loads of up to 2,000 lbs. They can carry a trailer or a boat of 14 feet in length respectively. The class 1 hitches are hooked to the vehicles bumper: "bumper hitches". Some of them have a removable tongue and cannot connect to the frame. This is mostly used by people who do not haul regularly since they can remove them any time they want. A cotter pin holds a pin in place that helps hold the tongue on.
Class II Hitches.
These can tow loads of 3500 lbs. They can carry trailers that are 12 feet long and boats 20 feet long. This type is appropriate for vehicles that are large like sedans and minivans. You can remove the tongue on this kind as well and they are also mounted to the frame's bottom.
Class III Hitches
The class III hitches can tow heavy duty loads with weights of up to 5000 lbs. A trailer boat of 24 feet can be carried by these hitches. Mounting is done on the frame in this type too. They can be used on pickup trucks and sports utility vehicles.
